The Militare Ordine del Collare

The Military Order of the Collar also called as the MOC is the family order of the Royal house of Aragon, Majorca and Sicily. The association undertakes major work for charity and performs multiple activities as the Militare Ordine del Collare di Sant’Agata dei Paternò, which is regarded as a dynastic Order of Knighthood.

The medieval Royal house in Spain had many heirs; the existing heirs continue to live in Sicily. However, the Military Order of the Collar still continues to survive and is still active and doing its outstanding work. The Militare Ordine del Collare was being passed from one generation to the other of the respective family members, and over a period of time, the order has eventually changed from a chivalric association to a Dynastic Order.

The MOC (Order of the Collar) was founded for the purpose of defending Minorca. The Military Order of the Collar is a dynastic order, which is considered as one of the most important orders of the royal house.

The Militare Ordine del Collare was first introduced for a military objective. It was founded in January 1289. The chivalric association was founded to suppress the Moorish pirates from conquering Minorca. In today’s world, according to the international law, this dynastic order has been formally and legitimately recongized for the benefit of all the other countries of the world.

It is considered that members, knights and dames, of the Militare Ordine del Collare are bound by an oath of loyalty to the hereditary Grand Master of the order. In the other countries, especially the Nordic countries and the Baltic Regions, the Military Order of the Collar or MOC has developed successfully with their active and selfless programs.

 Among all the Orders in the Royal House of Aragon, it is the Military Order of the Collar, which is considered the most important. The MOC also provides ranks for its members such as

-Knight/dame with Grand Cross with Collar
-Knight/dame with Grand Cross with Grand Collar

Initially, Aragon was a small country. However, over a period of time, it took over the Balearics (Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza) and Sicily and became a large country. The importance of the Militare Ordine del Collare is still great and hence, the House of Aragon, Major and Sicily remains to be the recognized as one of the main Royal Houses in exile.
